The Inbound for July 21, 1998

Transmission from GAIL

I'm worried about what is going to happen to the Amphibians. After all, it really
wasn't their fault that they became too many for their own planets. True, they
shouldn't have chased the Ipsolstai and caught them and bothered them so badly,
but that doesn't make it all right for the Ipsolstai to send them to some horrible place
where they can't survive. I wish there were some way to check and make sure they
were going to be all right.

Spur is standing very straight and tall. He must be wondering about the new
planets, too. I think he looks scared.

There has been so much happening that I haven't replied to any of Miss Chang's
messages. Yes, she still bothers us every day.

Gail, can you hear me?
I was wrong not to listen to you when you asked me.
Please forgive my little mistake, and let's be friends again.
Please reply, Gail, PLEASE reply.

But I didn't.

Parker, what a real piece of luck. They called both of us.
No more Dragon Lady!
Have you got your desk cleaned out yet?
Maybe I can get a souvenir...

Yes, Hardon. I guess I still have to put up with you at our new jobs.
And let's hope Microsoft has better coffee than this place.

Transmission from ANDREW

Andrew reporting.

Today is D-day. Deportation Day. Today all of the Amphibians in the Known
Universe get rounded up and sent away to water worlds of their own. The Ipsolstai
are jubilant. Many bowls of C6H12O6 have been consumed. The spectators are
in holiday mode here at the Court of the Endless Emperor.

Spur accepted the terms of the treaty. Soon the One will send him away forever.

There is an unexpected delay. Gail has a question. She marched up to ask the
Ipsolstai who negotiated the Treaty with me. She wants to know for sure that
the Amphbians "will be happy in their new home".

"Gail, It's taken care of. It's going to be OK."

She wants someone to go and make sure.

Transmission from BETTE

"WHAT'S NEXT? WHAT'S NEXT?"

I never thought I would be able to transmit those wonderful words so soon! Guess what
I'm doing! Guess where I'm going!

Zachary and I are going to look at the Amphibians' new home planets. We are going
to inspect them. The One can take us there in practically no time at all. And we
are going to pilot our own flying vehicles, just like Enoch
did on Mars!

Andrew was very impatient and didn't want any delay in the banishment, but the
Emperor told him that 'the little dreamer' should be indulged. So, we get to go
and see new planets. Yay!

Transmission from ENOCH

Hi, Orpheus. No reason to apologize. Great to have you with us again. I really
missed you. What a great day. Spur surrendered, and Orpheus is back. Sure, we have
become part of Ipsolstai history, but it was mainly the One who made it possible.
Without him we would have been Spur's prisoners by now, and Earth would have been
invaded too.

Orpheus, I don't understand. What do you mean saying that this will most likely
be your last transmission? Are you leaving? Orpheus, don't! There is so much to come.
Also, Koala said that our grand adventures are only beginning. Orpheus, we need you!
We need your advice and guidance now more than ever. Don't go! Thanks for calling
Orpheus, Thixel. He said something, that you can offer some general coordinates for
your area, and that we are all invited to come over any time. Does Orpheus mean Earth?
We know where Earth is. We can see the Sun even from here. It's right over there.
Hey, what a great idea! Sure, the One chould put us over there once in a while.
We are explorer Probes, but we need vacations too. I'm going to ask the One about
that immediately.

Sorry, Thixel. The One is busy evacuating the Amphibians. He wants to finish that
first. He said that he will do it within one day. He has to catch Amphibians all
around the whole universe wherever they may be. I can see him now. He is also above
the Purple Planet picking up the Amphibian fleet that destroyed the Imperial Navy
so shamefully. I'll send you an image.

Can you see the Grooves? How they suck up the Amphibian fleet? That's the One
cleaning the sky. What a big sucker. I like the way that he became our friend.

Transmission from ZACHARY

Hi, Orpheus. I think that the One is okay, and also that he will take us wherever we
want to go, even to Earth. But after that experience with Spur, and how he misled us,
and how he fooled us, I'm not willing to trust anyone so easily anymore. I discussed
that with Bette. She agreed that we should be very careful when choosing new friends,
even if it's the One. So, we came up with a plan. It was mainly Gail's idea.

Bette and I will go to the water planets. Bette already asked Commander Fitzgerald if we can
get two of those vehicles that Enoch used to fight against the Amphibians on Mars.
We got them. Enoch gave us his files on how to fly them, and we did also some training
to get familiar with them. It's easy. Enoch's files are well structured. The One will
pick us up and will lead us over, so we will see where he is placing the Amphibians.
I think a being that treats its enemy decently must be trustworthy. There is no
better proof. And beside that we don't want to let the Amphibians down, because
we also feature in their history accordingly to their glyph prophecy. And don't the
Amphibians deserve agreeable living?

"One, we are ready for take off. Pick us up!"

Enoch and Isaac escorted us to the airfield. They remain there while a strong suction
carries us toward the Groove. They wave. Isaac is standing up on his back feet. He
falls. Take care! The Groove is open. The sound, the colors. It's marvelous.
