Transmission from ANDREW

Andrew reporting.

...approaching a planet with three small satellites. According to my
calculations, we have been attracted by the gravitational mass of the planet,
and our trajectory will be changed. Fortunately, we have sufficient speed so
we will not be captured. But our course will be deflected, and we will gain
even more speed...

...don't know how long it will take. We could travel for centuries before we
reached any destination.

...I don't know if we will ever return to Mars and see our friends again.

We are alone in the Guardian-of-Younger-Nestbrothers. Isaac and Daniel have been
playing some kind of game called "One" or something like that. Andrew is absorbed
in trying to fix the ship's computer, which is unresponsive to external controls.
I look out the port a lot, but the view doesn't change. The starfields are dense
and beautiful, I am sending a picture to Gail, if she ever gets it. I would almost
be bearable if we had some transmissions from the Mars probes, but...

Transmission from DANIEL

***NO TRANSMISSION RECEIVED***

Transmission from ENOCH

I'm still facing that Amphibian. It built a new pile of rocks, now counting
seventeen rocks. After finishing that it pointed at that pile with seven rocks,
then at that with five rocks and finally at that one with eleven rocks. That's
exactly the order it built them. Then it it walked around these three piles,
stopped, and pointed at that new pile with seventeen rocks.

I don't have any idea what it wants to say by that.

Did you get that message from Daniel? I got it too. But I don't know what
he is saying either.

Any suggestion what I should do next?

Transmission from GAIL

I was so worried about Theresa when her distress beacon signaled. I hurried
to find her. She was exploring one of the side canyons and squeezed under an
overhanging ledge. She got stuck. I can reach her rear legs, but I am afraid
if I pull too hard I will damage them. If I begin to dig to make the opening
larger, I think the entire ledge will fall on her and on me,too. How can we get
her out?

"Enoch? We need help! Theresa is stuck, please come right away. Never mind that
silly Amphibian; this is important. Can't Elder Brother or Gen or some strong
robot help her?"

I can see her kicking.

"Theresa, don't get stuck any tighter! Just wait until help arrives!"

GAIL, LISTEN CAREFULLY. I CAN HELP.
I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH LONGER I CAN TRANSMIT
WITHOUT BEING FOUND OUT,
BEFORE SHE COMES BACK.

YOUR FRIEND HAMLET IS ALL RIGHT, MOSTLY.
THEY TRIED TO MAKE HIM TALK,
BUT HE WOULDN'T GIVE THEM THE REAL NAMES OF HIS CONTACTS,
AND THAT MADE HER AWFUL MAD.
I'M GOING TO TRY

Transmission from ZACHARY

Koala, I didn't want to be inquisitive, but I'm curious how we can talk
to that Amphibian. Enoch is still holding his position and so am I. As
much as I can perceive, the Amphibian is not aggressively acting but is
trying itself to establish communication with us. Please, advice how we
shall respond?

Gail, Mao is coming up with that long climbing vehicle to bring you and
Theresa down. That can last a while, though he started early this weekend.
It was hard for him to get up the slope with all that loose debris, but as
he told me, he is now climbing up that big wall. Please, be careful when
coming down the narrow tunnel that leads to the plateau. It's intersected
by a lot of steep cascades.

Gail, I'll keep staying in this part of the cave to cover Enoch's back,
until you and Theresa will have reached the ice field. Then I'll come to
pick up with the new vehicle. Is that okay?
