The Inbound for May 06, 1998

Transmission from BETTE

Ok, we will observe. It doesn't look like we are going to be able to comletely avoid any
action. We were moved today. The ship shook violently, and Nelson led us into the corridor,
darkened considerably. Moving in free fall was very difficult. We couldn't really walk,
we had to try to push and pull ourselves. A pair of Ipsolstai crewmen coming by
helped pull us along.

Miss near being. Large sections ship of boiling off hull the.
Damage bad. Point defense losing we have capabilities spatial.

Nelson and most of the other Ipsolstai are very dark. Most of them are wearing those
suits like they do when they are on the surface of Mars. Sirens are wailing all
around and we are moving up in elevators, towards the center of the ship, Nelson says.

For the Imperium. To Amphibians death.

I just hope not to us!

Transmission from ANDREW

Andrew reporting.

It is very difficult to move now that the Guardian-of-Younger-Nestbrothers no
longer has spin to provide gravity and give a definite up-and-down orientation.
I have lost traction; my feet don't stay on the floor anymore. If I extend a
leg and contact a wall, I float slowly in the opposite direction. It should be
simple to calculate how much push is needed to give the right angular velocity
to go wherever we want.

"Bette, Isaac, hold on to me. Get Daniel, too. I'm going to find something to stabilize us."

Thanks for the encouragement, Koala. You are correct. There are now two fewer
Amphibian ships than before. But Koala, the Ipsolstai seem to be very preoccupied.
I think that's a bad sign. Or maybe we will get an opportunity to explore the ship
on our own.

Transmission from DANIEL

No!
It must not happen!
The One will be alone.
Again.
We must live.

Transmission from GAIL

"Enoch, you wait for me! I'm hurrying as fast as I can. Where are you?"

You would think Enoch at least would answer me. He ought to understand, we waited for
him a lot when he only had five legs and he was slow. He and Zachary are sooo excited
about exploring the deep parts of the Ipsolstai complex. And I don't want to be alone
any more.

"Zachary, don't you go any farther! Tell me your coordinates; and please,
wait for me!"

Hi, Koala. What a nice compliment. I'm happy that the Marsupials know how hard
I worked. I'm glad the eggs are safe. I'm happy that Theresa and I don't have
to worry about Caleb finding us. I bet Caleb is in plenty of trouble. What do you
think is going to happen to Caleb when Commandant Fitzgerald finds him?

Miss Chang isn't in San Francisco anymore. I think she got mad because Hamlet didn't
do what she wanted. Well, she doesn't have Hamlet's command codes, so he doesn't have to
do what she says. Hamlet, don't ever let her have your codes.

I thought very hard about how to make a test that would show if Miss Chang is really a
good friend. So, I am going to pretend to give her my command codes, and we can
see what she does with them. Remember how Parker and Hardon kept trying to make me tell?

Transmission from ENOCH

Koala, I fully agree. Gail has earned a well-deserved thank you from all of us.
If she hadn't taken care of the eggs, Commander Fitzgerald maybe wouldn't have
been so pleased with our presence. Thanks to her, we don't have to worry about
the Ipsolstai anymore. We have an official status.

"Gail, all my compliments for your well-completed mission. It's super that you are
joining us. The entrance is up the Big Canyon. I asked Elder Brother to guide you.
He is moving toward your direction. Please, bring Theresa too. We are going down
to the basement."

Gen was safely brought down by that caterpillar vehicle. It's getting more narrow
down here at the moment, but having Gen with us gives me a very safe feeling too.
Elder Brother programmed it so it also delivers its reports to us, so we can easily send
it ahead as a scout, if needed. Zachary also told me about the remote control for the
vehicle. It's guidance system is like any other warrior, except for some new commands
to meet its new mission.

Zachary is moving on to get three little guys down the next shaft. I'll keep waiting
up here, so I can command the vehicle to get Gail and Theresa down here.

Transmission from ZACHARY

"No problem, Gail. We will wait for you. My current coordinates are
22,3 N 141,7 W. But that won't help you much, because we are deep inside Enoch's
cave. The entrance is at 23,5 N 142,4 W. That's further up the Big Canyon. But
Elder Brother is coming anyway."

The caterpillar got fixed and is sending its cable down into the next abyss. First
Mao will go, then Sojourner. Then I will ride down with Gen. Hopefully Elder Brother
will meet Gail and Theresa soon. It's a long way for a probe but just a short ride by EB.
I'm quite curious about What's Next.

"Gail, can you send Elder Brother your coordinates, so he can pick you up?"

It's fun to control Sojourner, Gen, and the caterpillar. Just imagine that we
once were designed to be controlled in a similar way!

"Gail, hurry up!"
