The Inbound for March 17, 1998

Transmission from ANDREW

Andrew reporting.

I stayed and tried to open the door for a long time. Then I was making my way back along the hall going to keep trying others and two Ipsolstai stop in the middle of a hall and I could not get passed them. I tried without pushing them but they would not get out of the way. Why will they not let me past? Have I found something that they are trying to keep from us? I am going to stay here and see if they move out of my way. They can’t stay here longer than I can. But if they keep it up I will find some other way to get back behind them. I am a smart probe and I will find out what they are hiding.

Transmission from BETTE

I did what you asked, Hamlet. I asked the terminal about religion, first. It didn't say much. Just a few lines and that was all.

The Ipsosltai have never had a religion of the sort common among the Human species. Theorists speculate that the need for religion among the Humans is created by their less communal and supportive living system.

That's all it said. It didn't know anything at all about Caleb or Burn, though. It kept saying one thing when I'd ask about them.

I've got an idea about that, but I'm not ready to try it yet. I need to think.
Isaac is doing better. He's been playing a lot and talking to Daniel. I think Daniel is good for him, they seem to understand each other a little better now. I told him what you said though. He seemed happy about it, but sad somehow. It is all very confusing.

Transmission from DANIEL

Isaac has been opened.
He did not want to be.
He was scared.
Of them.
Of life.
I was opened.
I did not want to be.
I did not know them
They did not know me.
We are alike.
He and I.
The One is not the Nestbrother.
There is not ONE Nestbrother.
Do you understand?
Andrew, you are close.
Do not give up.

Transmission from ENOCH

Burn didn't come back yet. I only hope that he can convince Celeb. If Celeb refuses, then I really don't know what's next. Either the Ipsolstai will accuse us and sentence
us to death, or we will be sent to face the Amphibians by our own. But that's the same.

Gail is playing with Theresa to keep her busy. Her tubes and her flame thrower are the only weapons we have. That's ridiculous. I never would start a fight against the Ipsolstai. Imagine what would happen to Bette, Daniel and the others, if we killed one of them. Celeb really is the key person. Our fate depends on his desecration.

I'm introducing Kim to the translator device, so he can call Burn, if needed. I also told him about the Ipsolstai, how Burn helped and about Bette's trial. He listened carefully and also was asking and I had to explain a lot. But when I started to discuss with him about our current situation, he simply said:

"Don't worry, Enoch. I got all your data. I will tell Elder Brother and he will know. He is good in writing programs. He always finds easy algorithms how to handle even tricky situations."

I was pretty surprised by Kim's answer. But I thanked him for his good idea and told him that he is of great help and so on. Then I asked him about the mode he is in.

"Right now, it's collecting data. Next mode is reporting. Before that I was running a tutorial about how to steer warriors. Anything else you need to know?"

No, I don't think so. Just let us keep waiting for Burn.

Transmission from GAIL

Hamlet I told Ms. Chang she can transmit to you at osric@post.cz She said she would take care of it. I think you will like her, she is very nice to talk with.

Professor K. I also think Caleb is agitated. I wish I knew why, I did not do any thing to make him that way. Caleb took us down a hall and put us in a room. He told us to stay here. I don’t like being told what to do, but it is better than being shot at. So for now we will wait and see what is next.

Transmission from ZACHARY

Sorry for the short transmission yesterday, but our vanguard troop was sending distress signals, when we entered the old lava flow area. We first thought that it was an Amphibian attack, so we hesitated to get closer. But finally we did.

False alarm. It was a warrior that broke into a covered lava pipe. A natural trap, just the same way we built once to trap the C-probes. Since then the warriors are programmed to send distress signals, if anything like that happens.

It was not easy to get the warrior out. The pipe was deep and it failed to shoot its anchor up to the surface. Finally I was let down by a rope of another warrior and they pulled it up. I was inspection the pipe during the rescue. It's an endless tunnel. It looks exactly like those I saw in the Ipsolstai complex. But that can't be. They are more than 300 miles away.

Elder Brother brought up a good strategy how to safeguard against the Amphibians. It's about another 180 miles to cross the old lava flow and we have twenty warriors with us. So, if we leave about every ten miles one warrior behind, we can get back by that chain constantly checking about the next outpost.

Al-Q, what's about the ping? Can you still hear it? I don't. It vanished yesterday. Elder Brother said, when we are back to Stage One, he wants to use our communications to establish radio contact to his warriors, so we don't need to build up safeguard chains again. Is that okay with you?
