The Inbound for January 05, 1998

Transmission from ANDREW

"Yes, Enoch. We got them all. Move out and have look for Zachary."

Our plan worked precisely. Enoch shut off the gorge by using his cartridges and then we turned our emergency beacons on and off. The C-probes started to circled around in the hollows. They couldn't find us and there was no way out. The pits worked too. Two of them fell into them and then we blew up by the cartridges that we had placed in the pits. They worked better than we thought. At least one of the C-probe is laying at its side and is unable to use its weapons. I don't know, how bad the other one is damaged, because it is still shooting with its projectile tubes. Anyway, mission fulfilled.

"Come on, Daniel. We can't get the third one. Let's move out. It is trapped anyway. I'll just instruct the miners to drill a tunnel, so they can get out by themselves. Hurry up!"

We climbed up the covered trail. I looked for the drones. They are fine. The dazzled C-probes didn't find them. As Enoch said, they are still totally blind. Then I had an idea.

"Come on, Daniel. Let's move around the rim of the gorge to the opposite side, where the pits are, and let's turn on our emergency beacons again."

We did. The third C-probe appeared. We kept it teasing with our beacons till it lifted its rocket launcher. Then we turned around and ran downhill. I heard the explosion of the rocket. It didn't come over the edge. The upper part of the gorge is too narrow there. But then it happened exactly what I expected. The whole section of the gorge collapsed.

I knew it would. The gorge there is raked by heavy rocks, which are held only by a layer of loose rubbles. The only question was, if the rocket will make it over the edge, otherwise the result would have been clear.

Daniel and I went closer to the rim again. No doubt. They are buried.

I watched the dazzled C-probes when the cartridges blew up. They didn't move,
though they got nearly hit by some rocks. That's good. They are still blind.

"Andrew, I'm going to looking for Zachary. I will climb outside. Is that okay?"

It's not so easy to climb up that covered trail and I had to pass exactly between the dazzled
C-probes when coming down the other side, but they didn't realize me. Let's hope
Zachary is okay. He didn't say any word since the rocket hit the drone. I'm realy
worried about him.

"Zachary, are you okay? I'm coming!"

I'm climbing up that hill, where I've seen Zachary the last time, when he tried to
dazzle the C-probes with his beam. Not much to see over here, except the few
leftovers of the drone. The rocket hit it fully. The mirror is also vaporized. I can
see only the crystals scattered over the area. Hey, what's down there?

"Andrew, I found him. I found Zachary. He is laying under a brow in a ravine. He
doesn't move, but he seems to be okay. I'm climbing down."

"Andrew, he is okay! Only his transmitter was disconnected. I'll reconnect it."

"Hey, Zachary, how are you?"

Transmission from ZACHARY

"Hi, Enoch. Thanks. I'm fine. How's about the C-probes? I tried to save the drone.
But I couldn't make it to jump down the ravine. They aren't programmed to act like
that. Then I tried to save the mirror, but it was too late. How's about Andrew and
Daniel? I heard several explosions. Was that you?"

"Well done, Enoch. Let's blow up the treads of these dazzled ones down there too.
Then all C-probes are defeated until the next troop is coming in. Did Al-Q provide
more details about them? They should be many."

"Enoch, I was thinking about Bette and Isaac all the time. We could try to get into
the Ipsolstai tunnels to rescue them. But that means fighting against the Ipsolstai
and that would make their situation even worse. Burn is with them and not all of
the Ipsolstai are hostile minded. The problem is that we don't know, who of them
are friendly. What's, if we harm the wrong ones?"

"I was thinking that back and forth, Enoch. We also can't provide Bette and Isaac
a better situation than they are in right now. Not as long as new C-probe troops are
coming in. Do you know, what I would like to do? What's about moving up to the
C-lander? Maybe we can stop them from that point. What do you think?"

"How many cartridges have you left, Enoch?"

"Seven. That means, we need two to blow up the treads of that two dazzled ones and
then only five cartridges are left. That isn't much, but I think worth to try it. I think
it's the best, we can do, Enoch."

Transmission from GAIL

Hurray, hurray. The C-probes are defeated again. Theresa, isn't that great? Now, we
will defeat them all, no matter how many will come.

"Enoch, Zachary. You are right, we never could have started a probe society with the
C-probes. They are dummies like the drones. Move up to their lander. Maybe there
are real probes to talk with. Tell them that killing is wrong. They must understand."

"Daniel, Andrew. Are you coming home? Theresa and I feel so lonely up here."

Transmission from DANIEL

C-probes buried.
Bette no talk.

One is talking.
They will come.

No one survive.
